Every organization has that one employee who keeps things\u2026 interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At Bark & Bond Life, that employee is Luka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His official title is Chief Disruption Officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And he takes his job very seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Luka came into my life like many rescue dogs do \u2014 with a past that is not entirely clear and a personality that definitely is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is part black lab, part Staffordshire terrier, a little bit Cane Corso, and one hundred percent committed to making sure nothing in this house stays calm for too long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has a system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If I am working, he needs to go outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If I am outside, he needs to come in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If I am carrying a box, he needs to know what is in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If I am opening a door, he needs to be on the other side of it immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Preferably before I am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has strong opinions about schedules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mostly that mine should revolve around him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is also the matter of negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Luka does not simply go into his crate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is a process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First, he pretends he does not hear me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then he suddenly remembers something very important he needs to do on the other side of the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then, if all else fails, he will slowly make his way over, looking at me as if to say,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is not how I planned my evening.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And yet\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He will sit in front of me and lean in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He will wait patiently, or not so patiently, for attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He will look at me like I am the only person in the world that matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is the bond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is life with Luka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A little chaotic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A little exhausting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And somehow, completely worth it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
